Seiko, also known as Seikosha, was founded in 1881 as a clock repair shop, started producing wall clocks in 1892 and pocket watches 3 years later. In 1913 Seiko made Japan’s first wristwatch and in 1969 built the world’s first atomic chronograph, as well as the world’s first quartz watch powered by a battery. This new quartz watch not only started a revolution in personal time-keeping, it also started a huge and rapidly growing industry of watch batteries.
