Can Batteries Really Help Train Your Dog?

September 11 2015

DogAre dogs really man’s best friend? That’s up for debate, but one thing isn’t: an unruly dog is no one’s friend at all! At Battery Bob we’re pretty excited about some of the newest features available on electronic dog collars.

While some people may associate them with painful shocks, the reality is that most of them simply make a beeping sound that works the same way clickers do, and others vibrate to indicate to the dog that they’re doing something they shouldn’t be doing. There are many ways they can help you train your dog.

First, they can help keep dogs within your property. This is essential if your dog is a runner! The last thing you want is for them to bolt off down the street and get hit by a car, or injure another dog or a person.

Next, they can prevent barking. While you may be able to tone out your dog’s barking, there’s a good chance your neighbors aren’t! A simple battery-operated electronic dog collar can keep your dogs from barking and help ensure your neighbors aren’t replacing their cordless phone batteries to call in a noise complaint on your family.

They’re also a great way to train dogs. You’ll often see professional trainers use clickers. These are simple devices held in their hands that they use to indicate to a dog that they’re doing something they shouldn’t be doing. The dogs learn it over time – but what about when they display behaviors when no one is around to see? That’s where these dog collars come in. Whether you’re around to hear it or not, your dog’s barking can be followed by a beeping sound that will indicate to your dog that they should knock it off.

Finally, these collars can train your pooch to stay away from harmful animals and objects. A great example is rattlesnake aversion. Rattlesnakes are highly poisonous and can be deadly to dogs. Make sure your batteries have been replaced before you start training your dog and your collar could prevent dangerous encounters with snakes and much more!
