Could You Live Greener? Find Out Now!

August 21 2015
Most people are taking steps to get greener but often there are things we could be doing that we simply don’t think about. Let’s take a look at a few tips that could help you get greener with just minor investments and a little bit of thought.

Green it up when it comes to batteries

There are several ways you can make sure you’re as green as possible with your battery usage, including:
  • Recycle your batteries when you’re done with them. Not only does it reduce the amount of waste in landfills, but it prevents chemicals from invading soil and ground water. As an added bonus, it also decreases the amount of raw materials needed to produce new batteries. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.
  • Invest in rechargeable batteries. Here at Battery Bob you’ve got tons of options available to you, from camera batteries to cordless phone batteries, and of course your typical AA and AAA varieties. Though they do require spending some money upfront, in the long run you’re sure to save.
  • Take advantage of solar-powered chargers. Not only are they very, very energy efficient, but they’re portable too! You’ll save some serious cash using these versus traditional chargers.

Green up your light bulb usage

You’ll love these unique ways to ensure that you’re staying green with your light bulb usage.

  • Once again – recycling is the first tip. Those energy-efficient lightbulbs are great, but they must be disposed of properly to prevent mercury from seeping into the earth.
  • Use LED or CFL over incandescent bulbs. Yes, they’ll cost you more upfront, but over time you’ll save energy and money. Switching just a single lightbulb can make a difference, so if you can’t afford to do them all, just do them one at a time as you can.
  • Keep an eye out for the Energy Star logo. It signifies that the light bulb in question meets strict energy efficiency guidelines as set out by the US Department of Energy and the EPA.

Some of these tips do require a short-term investment, but the long-term investment in lower energy use – and lower energy bills – is well worth the money you’ll spend today.
